Acrobat Reader versions 24.001.30365, 26.001.21651 and earlier are affected by an out-of-bounds read vulnerability that could lead to disclosure of sensitive memory. An attacker could leverage this vulnerability to disclose sensitive information. Exploitation of this issue requires user interaction in that a victim must open a malicious file.

Remediation

  1. Remove

    Remove Adobe Acrobat Reader from your environment.

    Uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader from systems where it is not required to eliminate the vulnerable software.

  2. Compensating control

    Mitigate exploitation while updates are applied: prevent users from opening untrusted PDF files (block or filter PDF attachments at mail and web gateways, disable automatic opening of PDF attachments/previews, and enforce user awareness training). Where possible, open PDFs in isolated sandboxes or restrict Acrobat Reader usage to trusted hosts and networks.
