Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who is most likely to be exposed to this issue?

macOS systems running Apple macOS Golden Gate or macOS Sonoma that have not installed the listed fixes may be exposed. The CVSS vector indicates local access and low privileges are required, so this is primarily relevant where an attacker can run an application or otherwise obtain a local user account.

2

Does exploitation require user interaction or elevated privileges?

The CVSS vector indicates that no user interaction is required and that low privileges are sufficient. It also indicates local attack vector access, rather than remote network access.

3

What should be done if a system may be affected?

Update to macOS Golden Gate 27 or macOS Sonoma 14.8.8, as applicable. These releases include the stated path-validation, bounds-checking, data-protection, permission, and memory-handling fixes.

4

How can administrators identify potentially affected systems?

Review installed macOS versions and identify Golden Gate or Sonoma systems that are not on the listed fixed releases. Prioritize systems where untrusted or low-privileged local applications can be executed, because the issue may permit access to sensitive user data.
