Apache Commons HttpClient 3.x, as used in Amazon Flexible Payments Service (FPS) merchant Java SDK and other products, does not verify that the server hostname matches a domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) or subjectAltName field of the X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate.

An unspecified flaw was found in the Libraries component in OpenJDK. ObjectInputStream's readSerialData() could, in certain cases, incorrectly perform deserialization of data from serialized input. An untrusted Java application or applet could use this flaw to bypass Java sandbox restrictions.

It was discovered that the Invariance Weakness of the RC4 stream cipher could be used to recover plaintext from a TLS connection, when RC4 encryption is used.

"The Invariance Weakness is an L-shape key pattern in RC4 keys, which once it exists in an RC4 key, preserves part of the state permutation intact throughout the initialization process. This intact part includes the least significant bits of the permutation, when processed by the PRGA algorithm, determines the least significant bits of the allegedly pseudo-random output stream along a long prefix of the stream."

This can lead to significant leakage of plaintext bytes from the ciphertext.

A flaw was found in the way TLS 1.2 could use the MD5 hash function for signing ServerKeyExchange and Client Authentication packets during a TLS handshake. A man-in-the-middle attacker able to force a TLS connection to use the MD5 hash function could use this flaw to conduct collision attacks to impersonate a TLS server or an authenticated TLS client.

A vulnerability was discovered in OpenStack:

Title: S3Token TLS cert verification option not honored Reporter: Brant Knudson (IBM) Products: keystonemiddleware, python-keystoneclient Affects: versions up to 1.5.0 (keystonemiddleware), versions up to 0.11.2 (python-keystoneclient)

Description: Brant Knudson from IBM reported a vulnerability in keystonemiddleware (formerly shipped as python-keystoneclient). When the 'insecure' option is set in a S3Token paste configuration file its value is effectively ignored and instead assumed to be true. As a result certificate verification will be disabled, leaving TLS connections open to MITM attacks. Note that it's unusual to explicitly add this option and then set it to false, so the impact of this bug is thought to be limited. All versions of s3token middleware with TLS settings configured are affected by this flaw.

The unity-firefox-extension package could be tricked into destroying the Unity webapps context, causing Firefox to crash. This could be achieved by spinning the event loop inside the webapps initialization callback. Fixed in 3.0.0+14.04.20140416-0ubuntu1.14.04.1 by shipping an empty package, thus disabling the extension entirely.

The unity-firefox-extension package could be tricked into dropping a C callback which was still in use, which Firefox would then free, causing Firefox to crash. This could be achieved by adding an action to the launcher and updating it with new callbacks until the libunity-webapps rate limit was hit. Fixed in 3.0.0+14.04.20140416-0ubuntu1.14.04.1 of unity-firefox-extension and in all versions of libunity-webapps by shipping an empty unity-firefox-extension package, thus disabling the extension entirely and invalidating the attack against the libunity-webapps package.

A flaw in certain programs that handle UDP traffic was discovered and assigned the name CVE-1999-0103 (that CVE specifically mentions echo and chargen as vulnerable). In 2002, a Nessus plugin was included [1] that reference this CVE name, but was for the kpasswd service. Until recently, this issue had not been reported upstream. This issue has since been reported upstream [2] and is now fixed [3].

If a malicious remote user were to spoof their IP address to that of another server running kadmind with the password change port (kpasswd, port 464), or to the target server's IP address itself), kpasswd will pass UDP packets to the spoofed address and reply each time. This can be used to consume bandwidth and CPU on the affected servers running kadmind.

This should be fixed in the for krb5-1.11.3 release.
