OS Command Injection
AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H

Frigate is a network video recorder (NVR) with realtime local object detection for IP cameras. Prior to 0.16.4, a critical Remote Command Execution (RCE) vulnerability has been identified in the Frigate integration with go2rtc. The application does not sanitize user input in the video stream configuration (config.yaml), allowing direct injection of system commands via the exec: directive. The go2rtc service executes these commands without restrictions. This vulnerability is only exploitable by an administrator or users who have exposed their Frigate install to the open internet with no authentication which allows anyone full administrative control. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.16.4.

Frigate is a network video recorder (NVR) with realtime local object detection for IP cameras. Versions prior to 0.17.0-beta1 allow any authenticated user to change their own password without verifying the current password through the /users/{username}/password endpoint. Changing a password does not invalidate existing JWT tokens, and there is no validation of password strength. If an attacker obtains a valid session token (e.g., via accidentally exposed JWT, stolen cookie, XSS, compromised device, or sniffing over HTTP), they can change the victim’s password and gain permanent control of the account. Since password changes do not invalidate existing JWT tokens, session hijacks persist even after a password reset. Additionally, the lack of password strength validation exposes accounts to brute-force attacks. This issue has been resolved in version 0.17.0-beta1.

Buffer Overflow
AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Frigate 3.36.0.9 contains a local buffer overflow vulnerability in the Command Line input field that allows attackers to execute arbitrary code. Attackers can craft a malicious payload to overflow the buffer, bypass DEP, and execute commands like launching calc.exe through a specially crafted input sequence.

Frigate is an open source network video recorder. In version 0.17.1, the GET /api/logs/{service} endpoint allows any authenticated user including the viewer role to download Frigate and nginx logs, exposing auto-generated admin passwords and camera credentials logged in request query strings and enabling viewer-to-admin privilege escalation. A fixed release has not been identified.

Frigate is an open source network video recorder. Prior to 0.17.2, the WebSocket handler in frigate/comms/ws.py forwards attacker-selected message topics to the dispatcher without checking the authenticated user's role because the nginx authentication subrequest does not provide role-aware authorization to the handler. Any authenticated viewer can send admin-only topics such as restart, notifications/set, and camera detection, recording, snapshot, audio, motion, and enablement settings, causing service restarts or disabling security monitoring functions. Authentication must be enabled and valid viewer credentials are required. This issue is fixed in version 0.17.2.

Frigate is an open source network video recorder. Prior to 0.18.0, the prefix-matched location /api/go2rtc/api in docker/main/rootfs/usr/local/nginx/conf/nginx.conf requires authentication but does not require an administrator role for GET requests, exposing the proxied go2rtc API to viewer users. An authenticated viewer can request the streams, config, log, and stack subpaths to obtain internal addresses, configuration paths, application logs, goroutine stack data, and RTSP stream URLs that may contain camera credentials. Non-GET methods remain blocked by limitexcept GET. This issue is fixed in version 0.18.0.

CSRF, XSS
AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Frigate is an open source network video recorder. Prior to version 0.13.0 Beta 3, the config/save and config/set endpoints of Frigate do not implement any CSRF protection. This makes it possible for a request sourced from another site to update the configuration of the Frigate server (e.g. via "drive-by" attack). Exploiting this vulnerability requires the attacker to both know very specific information about a user's Frigate server and requires an authenticated user to be tricked into clicking a specially crafted link to their Frigate instance. This vulnerability could exploited by an attacker under the following circumstances: Frigate publicly exposed to the internet (even with authentication); attacker knows the address of a user's Frigate instance; attacker crafts a specialized page which links to the user's Frigate instance; attacker finds a way to get an authenticated user to visit their specialized page and click the button/link. This issue can lead to arbitrary configuration updates for the Frigate server, resulting in denial of service and possible data exfiltration. Version 0.13.0 Beta 3 contains a patch.

Frigate is an open source network video recorder. Prior to version 0.13.0 Beta 3, an unsafe deserialization vulnerability was identified in the endpoints used to save configurations for Frigate. This can lead to unauthenticated remote code execution. This can be performed through the UI at /config or through a direct call to /api/config/save. Input is initially accepted through http.py. The user-provided input is then parsed and loaded by loadconfigwithnoduplicates. However, loadconfigwithnoduplicates does not sanitize this input by merit of using yaml.loader.Loader which can instantiate custom constructors. A provided payload will be executed directly at frigate/util/builtin.py:110. This issue may lead to pre-authenticated Remote Code Execution. Version 0.13.0 Beta 3 contains a patch.

Frigate is a network video recorder (NVR) with realtime local object detection for IP cameras. In version 0.17.0, a low-privilege authenticated user restricted to one camera can access snapshots from other cameras. This is possible through a chain of two authorization problems: /api/timeline returns timeline entries for cameras outside the caller's allowed camera set, then /api/events/{eventid}/snapshot-clean.webp declares Depends(requirecameraaccess) but never actually validates event.camera after looking up the event. Together, this allows a restricted user to enumerate event IDs from unauthorized cameras and then fetch clean snapshots for those events. Version 0.17.1 fixes the issue.

Frigate is a network video recorder (NVR) with realtime local object detection for IP cameras. In version 0.17.0, an authenticated non-admin user can retrieve the full raw Frigate configuration through /api/config/raw. This exposes sensitive values that are intentionally redacted from /api/config, including camera credentials, go2rtc stream credentials, MQTT passwords, proxy secrets, and any other secrets stored in config.yml. This appears to be a broken access control issue introduced by the admin-by-default API refactor: /api/config/rawpaths is admin-only, but /api/config/raw is still accessible to any authenticated user. Version 0.17.1 contains a patch.

Frigate is a network video recorder (NVR) with realtime local object detection for IP cameras. Prior to version 0.16.3, the /ffprobe endpoint accepts arbitrary user-controlled URLs without proper validation, allowing Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) attacks. Frigate is an open source network video recorder. Prior to version 0.13.0 Beta 3, there is a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in any API endpoints reliant on the /<cameraname> base path as values provided for the path are not sanitized. As the reflected values included in the URL are not sanitized or escaped, this permits execution arbitrary Javascript payloads. Version 0.13.0 Beta 3 contains a patch for this issue.
