Horilla is a free and open source Human Resource Management System (HRMS). An authenticated Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability exists in Horilla 1.3.0 due to the unsafe use of Python’s eval() function on a user-controlled query parameter in the projectbulkarchive view. This allows privileged users (e.g., administrators) to execute arbitrary system commands on the server. While having Django’s DEBUG=True makes exploitation visibly easier by returning command output in the HTTP response, this is not required. The vulnerability can still be exploited in DEBUG=False mode by using blind payloads such as a reverse shell, leading to full remote code execution. This issue has been patched in version 1.3.1.

Horilla is an HR and CRM software. Prior to 2.0.0, HorillaListView.exportdata in horillaviews/generic/cbv/views.py accepts an authenticated user's columns POST parameter, takes fieldtuple[1], interpolates it into dynamicfnstr as Python source, and passes the generated function definition to exec(). A crafted string that remains valid under ast.literaleval can inject Python syntax into a default argument evaluated during function definition, allowing arbitrary operating-system commands to execute with the application process privileges, including root privileges in the shipped Docker image. This issue is fixed in version 2.0.0.

Horilla is an HR and CRM software. Prior to 2.0.0, approvevalidateattendancerequest at /attendance/approve-validate-attendance-request/ changes attendancevalidated, isvalidaterequestapproved, approvedby, and related pending-request state through an HTTP GET before calling attendance.save(), so Django does not require CSRF validation for the action. An unauthenticated attacker can cause a logged-in manager with attendance.changeattendance to make a top-level request that carries the manager's SameSite=Lax session cookie, silently approving attendance with the victim's privileges and attributing the approval to the victim in the audit trail. This issue is fixed in version 2.0.0.

Horilla is an HR and CRM software. Prior to 1.6.0, the search parameter at /employee/employee-filter-view is reflected by jQuery .html() in employee/templates/employeenav.html without HTML neutralization. An external attacker can craft and deliver a link that causes JavaScript to execute when an authenticated employee or administrator reaches the employee filter, allowing access to browser-visible session data and actions with the victim's application privileges. This issue is fixed in version 1.6.0.

Horilla is an HR and CRM software. In 1.5.0-85 and earlier, payroll/views/componentviews.py does not consistently authorize access in allowancesdeductionstab, viewsingleallowance, and viewsinglededuction before loading records selected by empid, allowanceid, or deductionid. An authenticated employee can substitute those identifiers to read another employee's salary structure, allowance and deduction amounts, personal loan disbursements, and repayment schedules without owning the record or holding payroll-view permissions. No complete fixed version is available as of this review.

AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N

Horilla is an HR and CRM software. From 1.0.0 until 1.6.0 and 2.0.0, the getmailpreview handlers in recruitment/views/actions.py and employee/notinoutdashboard.py render a user-controlled body at /recruitment/get-mail-preview/ and /employee/get-employee-mail-preview with the full request object in the Django template context. An authenticated user with a valid CSRF token can use template attribute traversal to read request.user.password, request.META, and related-user attributes, exposing password hashes, personal data, and server request metadata. Django template restrictions prevent arbitrary code execution through this primitive, so the demonstrated impact is information disclosure and possible offline password cracking or account compromise. This issue is fixed in versions 1.6.0 and 2.0.0.

A flaw has been found in horilla-opensource horilla up to 1.0.2. Impacted is an unknown function of the file static/assets/js/global.js of the component Leads Module. This manipulation of the argument Notes causes cross site scripting. The attack is possible to be carried out remotely. The exploit has been published and may be used. Upgrading to version 1.0.3 is recommended to address this issue. Patch name: fc5c8e55988e89273012491b5f097b762b474546. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.

Malicious File Upload

Horilla is a free and open source Human Resource Management System (HRMS). A critical File Upload vulnerability in versions prior to 1.5.0, with Social Engineering, allows authenticated users to deploy phishing attacks. By uploading a malicious HTML file disguised as a profile picture, an attacker can create a convincing login page replica that steals user credentials. When a victim visits the uploaded file URL, they see an authentic-looking "Session Expired" message prompting them to re-authenticate. All entered credentials are captured and sent to the attacker's server, enabling Account Takeover. Version 1.5.0 patches the issue.

Horilla is a free and open source Human Resource Management System (HRMS). An Improper Access Control vulnerability exists in Horilla HR Software starting in version 1.4.0 and prior to version 1.5.0, allowing any authenticated employee to upload documents on behalf of another employee without proper authorization. This occurs due to insufficient server-side validation of the employeeid parameter during file upload operations, allowing any authenticated employee to upload document in behalf of any employee. Version 1.5.0 fixes the issue.

Horilla is a free and open source Human Resource Management System (HRMS). Versions 1.4.0 and above expose unpublished job postings through the /recruitment/recruitment-details// endpoint without authentication. The response includes draft job titles, descriptions and application link allowing unauthenticated users to view unpublished roles and access the application workflow for unpublished jobs. Unauthorized access to unpublished job posts can leak sensitive internal hiring information and cause confusion among candidates. This issue has been fixed in version 1.5.0.

Horilla is a free and open source Human Resource Management System (HRMS). In version 1.4.0, the hasxss() function attempts to block XSS by matching input against a set of regex patterns. However, the regexes are incomplete and context-agnostic, making them easy to bypass. Attackers are able to redirect users to malicious domains, run external JavaScript, and steal CSRF tokens that can be used to craft CSRF attacks against admins. This issue has been fixed in version 1.5.0.

Horilla is a free and open source Human Resource Management System (HRMS). In version 1.4.0, the OTP handling logic has a flawed equality check that can be bypassed. When an OTP expires, the server returns None, and if an attacker omits the otp field from their POST request, the user-supplied OTP is also None, causing the comparison userotp == otp to pass. This allows an attacker to bypass two-factor authentication entirely without ever providing a valid OTP. If administrative accounts are targeted, it could lead to compromise of sensitive HR data, manipulation of employee records, and further system-wide abuse. This issue has been fixed in version 1.5.0.

Horilla is a free and open source Human Resource Management System (HRMS). Version 1.4.0 has Improper Access Control, allowing low-privileged employees to self-approve documents they have uploaded. The document-approval UI is intended to be restricted to administrator or high-privilege roles only; however, an insufficient server-side authorization check on the approval endpoint lets a standard employee modify the approval status of their own uploaded document. A successful exploitation allows users with only employee-level permissions to alter application state reserved for administrators. This undermines the integrity of HR processes (for example, acceptance of credentials, certifications, or supporting materials), and may enable submission of unvetted documents. This issue is fixed in version 1.5.0.
