hplip is vulnerable to a Denial-Of-Service-Attack via it's listener port.
The alert-mailing implementation in HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) 1.6.7 allows local users to gain privileges and send e-mail messages from the root account via vectors related to the setalerts message, and lack of validation of the device URI associated with an event message.
Sebastian Krahmer reported a flaw in how hplip discovered SNMP devices. If certain hplip commands were run that queried SNMP devices, and a malicious user were able to send crafted SNMP responses, it could cause the running hplip tool to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the tool.

foomatic-rip-hplip in HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) 3.11.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted FoomaticRIPCommandLine field in a .ppd file.
A temporary file handling flaw was reported [1] in prnt/hpijs/hpcupsfax.cpp, the hplip HP CUPS filter. Because a predicatable temporary filename is used (/tmp/hpcupsfax.out), an attacker could use a symlink attack to overwrite an arbitrary file with the privileges of the process running the HP CUPS fax filter.

This flaw only exists in hplip 3.x and is not present in earlier versions of hplip.

Statement:
This issue did not affect the versions of hplip as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. A future update in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (for hplip3) and 6 may address this flaw.
HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) before 3.13.2 uses world-writable permissions for /var/log/hp and /var/log/hp/tmp, which allows local users to delete log files via standard filesystem operations.
Sebastian Krahmer reported a security issue was found in polkit (CVE-2013-4288 bz 1002375).
It was found that hplip was vulnerable to this issue as well, since it communicated to polkit authority using an unsafe DBUS interface.

HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) through 3.12.4 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on the (1) /tmp/hpcupsfilterc#.bmp, (2) /tmp/hpcupsfilterk#.bmp, (3) /tmp/hpcupsjob#.out, (4) /tmp/hpijs#####.out, or (5) /tmp/hppsjob#.out temporary file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2011-2722.
