An Incorrect Permission Assignment for Critical Resource vulnerability in the On-Box Anomaly detection framework of Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved on PTX Series allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to execute code as root.
The On-Box Anomaly detection framework should only be reachable by other internal processes over the internal routing instance, but not over an externally exposed port. With the ability to access and manipulate the service to execute code as root a remote attacker can take complete control of the device. Please note that this service is enabled by default as no specific configuration is required.
This issue affects Junos OS Evolved on PTX Series:
25.4 versions before 25.4R1-S1-EVO, 25.4R2-EVO.
This issue does not affect Junos OS Evolved versions before 25.4R1-EVO.
This issue does not affect Junos OS.
An Improper Privilege Management vulnerability in the gRPC framework, used by the Juniper Extension Toolkit (JET) API on Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved, allows a network-based, low-privileged authenticated attacker to perform operations as root, leading to complete compromise of the targeted system. The issue is caused by the JET service daemon (jsd) process authenticating the user, then passing configuration operations directly to the management daemon (mgd) process, which runs as root. This issue affects Juniper Networks Junos OS: 18.4 versions prior to 18.4R1-S8, 18.4R2-S8, 18.4R3-S8; 19.1 versions prior to 19.1R2-S3, 19.1R3-S5; 19.2 versions prior to 19.2R1-S7, 19.2R3-S2; 19.3 versions prior to 19.3R2-S6, 19.3R3-S2; 19.4 versions prior to 19.4R1-S4, 19.4R2-S4, 19.4R3-S3; 20.1 versions prior to 20.1R2-S2, 20.1R3; 20.2 versions prior to 20.2R2-S3, 20.2R3; 20.3 versions prior to 20.3R2-S1, 20.3R3; 20.4 versions prior to 20.4R2. This issue does not affect Juniper Networks Junos OS versions prior to 18.4R1. Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved: All versions prior to 20.4R2-EVO; 21.1-EVO versions prior to 21.1R2-EVO.
An Improper Handling of Values vulnerability in the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) of Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved on ACX 7000 Series allows a network-based, unauthenticated attacker to cause a Denial-of-Service (DoS).
If a value is configured for DDoS bandwidth or burst parameters for any protocol in a queue, all protocols which share the same queue will have their bandwidth or burst value changed to the new value. If, for example, OSPF was configured with a certain bandwidth value, ISIS would also be limited to this value. So inadvertently either the control plane is open for a high level of specific traffic which was supposed to be limited to a lower value, or the limit for a certain protocol is so low that chances to succeed with a volumetric DoS attack are significantly increased.
This issue affects Junos OS Evolved on ACX 7000 Series:

An Improper Handling of Exceptional Conditions vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (RPD) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows a network based, unauthenticated attacker to cause the RPD process to crash leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
When a malformed BGP UPDATE packet is received over an established BGP session, RPD crashes and restarts.
Continuous receipt of the malformed BGP UPDATE messages will create a sustained Denial of Service (DoS) condition for impacted devices.
This issue affects eBGP and iBGP, in both IPv4 and IPv6 implementations. This issue requires a remote attacker to have at least one established BGP session.
This issue affects: Juniper Networks Junos OS: All versions earlier than 20.4R3-S9; 21.2 versions earlier than 21.2R3-S7; 21.3 versions earlier than 21.3R3-S5; 21.4 versions earlier than 21.4R3-S6; 22.1 versions earlier than 22.1R3-S4; 22.2 versions earlier than 22.2R3-S3; 22.3 versions earlier than 22.3R3-S2; 22.4 versions earlier than 22.4R3; 23.2 versions earlier than 23.2R2.

An Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling vulnerability in the kernel of Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved allows an unauthenticated, network based attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS).
In specific cases the state of TCP sessions that are terminated is not cleared, which over time leads to an exhaustion of resources, preventing new connections to the control plane from being established.
A continuously increasing number of connections shown by:
user@host > show system connections
is indicative of the problem. To recover the respective RE needs to be restarted manually.
This issue only affects IPv4 but does not affect IPv6. This issue only affects TCP sessions established in-band (over an interface on an FPC) but not out-of-band (over the management ethernet port on the routing-engine).
This issue affects Junos OS Evolved:

A Missing Release of Memory after Effective Lifetime vulnerability in the Juniper Tunnel Driver (jtd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved allows an unauthenticated network-based attacker to cause Denial of Service.
Receipt of specifically malformed IPv6 packets, destined to the device, causes kernel memory to not be freed, resulting in memory exhaustion leading to a system crash and Denial of Service (DoS). Continuous receipt and processing of these packets will continue to exhaust kernel memory, creating a sustained Denial of Service (DoS) condition. This issue only affects systems configured with IPv6.

This issue does not affect Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved versions prior to 22.4R1-EVO.
This is a similar, but different vulnerability than the issue reported as CVE-2024-39549.
A double-free vulnerability in the routing process daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an attacker to send a malformed BGP Path attribute update which allocates memory used to log the bad path attribute. This double free of memory is causing an rpd crash, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
This issue affects:
Junos OS: from 22.4 before 22.4R3-S4.
Junos OS Evolved: from 22.4 before 22.4R3-S4-EVO.
A Buffer Access with Incorrect Length Value vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS). A Buffer Over-read vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause a Denial-of-Service (DoS).
When an affected device receives a BGP update with a set of specific optional transitive attributes over an established peering session, rpd will crash and restart when attempting to advertise the received information to another peer. This issue can only happen if one or both of the BGP peers of the receiving session are non-4-byte-AS capable as determined from the advertised capabilities during BGP session establishment. Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved default behavior is 4-byte-AS capable unless this has been specifically disabled by configuring:
[ protocols bgp ... disable-4byte-as ]
Established BGP sessions can be checked by executing:
show bgp neighbor <IP address> | match "4 byte AS"

In a certain condition, receipt of a specific BGP UPDATE message might cause Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved devices to advertise an invalid BGP UPDATE message to other peers, causing the other peers to terminate the established BGP session, creating a Denial of Service (DoS) condition. For example, Router A sends a specific BGP UPDATE to Router B, causing Router B to send an invalid BGP UPDATE message to Router C, resulting in termination of the BGP session between Router B and Router C. This issue might occur when there is at least a single BGP session established on the device that does not support 4 Byte AS extension (RFC 4893). Repeated receipt of the same BGP UPDATE can result in an extended DoS condition. This issue affects Juniper Networks Junos OS: 16.1 versions prior to 16.1R7-S6; 16.2 versions prior to 16.2R2-S11; 17.1 versions prior to 17.1R2-S11, 17.1R3-S2; 17.2 versions prior to 17.2R1-S9, 17.2R2-S8, 17.2R3-S3; 17.2X75 versions prior to 17.2X75-D105, 17.2X75-D110, 17.2X75-D44; 17.3 versions prior to 17.3R2-S5, 17.3R3-S7; 17.4 versions prior to 17.4R2-S8, 17.4R3; 18.1 versions prior to 18.1R3-S8; 18.2 versions prior to 18.2R2-S6, 18.2R3-S2; 18.2X75 versions prior to 18.2X75-D12, 18.2X75-D33, 18.2X75-D411, 18.2X75-D420, 18.2X75-D51, 18.2X75-D60; 18.3 versions prior to 18.3R1-S6, 18.3R2-S3, 18.3R3; 18.4 versions prior to 18.4R1-S5, 18.4R3; 18.4 version 18.4R2 and later versions; 19.1 versions prior to 19.1R1-S3, 19.1R2; 19.2 versions prior to 19.2R1-S2, 19.2R2. An OS Command Injection vulnerability in the CLI processing of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows a local, high-privileged attacker executing specific, crafted CLI commands to inject arbitrary shell commands as root, leading to a complete compromise of the system.
Certain 'set system' commands, when executed with crafted arguments, are not properly sanitized, allowing for arbitrary shell injection. These shell commands are executed as root, potentially allowing for complete control of the vulnerable system. This issue affects:
Junos OS:
all versions before 22.4R3-S8, from 23.2 before 23.2R2-S5, from 23.4 before 23.4R2-S7, from 24.2 before 24.2R2-S2, from 24.4 before 24.4R2, from 25.2 before 25.2R2;
Junos OS Evolved:
all versions before 22.4R3-S8-EVO, from 23.2 before 23.2R2-S5-EVO, from 23.4 before 23.4R2-S7-EVO, from 24.2 before 24.2R2-S2-EVO, from 24.4 before 24.4R2-EVO, from 25.2 before 25.2R1-S1-EVO, 25.2R2-EVO.
An Improper Restriction of Communication Channel to Intended Endpoints vulnerability in the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) of Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved on ACX 7000 Series allows an unauthenticated, network based attacker to cause increased consumption of resources, ultimately resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
When specific transit MPLS packets are received by the PFE, these packets are internally forwarded to the Routing Engine (RE), rather than being handled appropriately. Continuous receipt of these MPLS packets causes resources to be exhausted. MPLS config is not required to be affected by this issue.
This issue affects Junos OS Evolved ACX 7000 Series:
All versions before 21.4R3-S9-EVO, 22.2-EVO before 22.2R3-S4-EVO, 22.3-EVO before 22.3R3-S3-EVO, 22.4-EVO before 22.4R3-S2-EVO, 23.2-EVO before 23.2R2-EVO, 23.4-EVO before 23.4R1-S1-EVO, 23.4R2-EVO.
An Improper Handling of Exceptional Conditions vulnerability in the Routing Protocol Daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows a network-based, unauthenticated attacker to cause Denial of Service (DoS).
When a BGP UPDATE with malformed path attribute is received over an established BGP session, rpd crashes and restarts.
Continuous receipt of a BGP UPDATE with a specifically malformed path attribute will create a sustained Denial of Service (DoS) condition for impacted devices. While this issue affects systems running 32-bit and 64-bit systems, the probability of impact on 64-bit system is extremely low. According to KB25803 https://supportportal.juniper.net/s/article/Junos-How-to-check-if-Junos-OS-is-64-or-32-bit-on-a-router , customers can confirm 32-bit or 64-bit system via the ' show version detail ' command:
lab@router> show version detail| match 32 JUNOS 32-bit kernel Software Suite
lab@router> show version detail| match 64 JUNOS 64-bit kernel Software Suite
This issue affects:

Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved: All versions before 21.4R3-S8-EVO, from 22.2 before 22.2R3-S4-EVO, from 22.4 before 22.4R3-S3-EVO, from 23.2 before 23.2R2-S1-EVO, from 23.4 before 23.4R1-S2-EVO, 23.4R2-EVO.
An Out-of-bounds Read vulnerability in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved's routing protocol daemon (rpd) allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to send malformed BGP packets to a device configured with packet receive trace options enabled to crash rpd. This issue affects:
Junos OS:
from 21.2R3-S8 before 21.2R3-S9, from 21.4R3-S7 before 21.4R3-S9, from 22.2R3-S4 before 22.2R3-S5, from 22.3R3-S2 before 22.3R3-S4, from 22.4R3 before 22.4R3-S5, from 23.2R2 before 23.2R2-S2, from 23.4R1 before 23.4R2-S1, from 24.2R1 before 24.2R1-S1, 24.2R2.
Junos OS Evolved: from 21.4R3-S7-EVO before 21.4R3-S9-EVO, from 22.2R3-S4-EVO before 22.2R3-S5-EVO, from 22.3R3-S2-EVO before 22.3R3-S4-EVO, from 22.4R3-EVO before 22.4R3-S5-EVO, from 23.2R2-EVO before 23.2R2-S2-EVO, from 23.4R1-EVO before 23.4R2-S1-EVO, from 24.2R1-EVO before 24.2R1-S2-EVO, 24.2R2-EVO.
This issue requires a BGP session to be established.
This issue can propagate and multiply through multiple ASes until reaching vulnerable devices.
This issue affects iBGP and eBGP.
This issue affects IPv4 and IPv6.
An indicator of compromise may be the presence of malformed update messages in a neighboring AS which is unaffected by this issue:
For example, by issuing the command on the neighboring device: show log messages
Reviewing for similar messages from devices within proximity to each other may indicate this malformed packet is propagating: rpd[<pid>]: Received malformed update from <IP address> (External AS <AS#>) and rpd[<pid>]: Malformed Attribute
A NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause impact to the availability of the device.
When static route points to a reject next hop and a gNMI query is processed for that static route, rpd crashes and restarts.
This issue affects:

An Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions vulnerability in the
advanced forwarding toolkit (evo-aftmand)
of Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved on PTX Series allows an unauthenticated network-based attacker generating continuous routing updates, resulting in unilist ECMP routes, to crash the
evo-aftmand process on the PFE, leading to a Denial-of-Service (DoS). The conditions required for successful exploitation are based on a sequence of events that are outside an attacker's direct control.
Unified list (unilist) ECMP routes are a specific ECMP behavior where multiple equal-cost routes share a single logical next-hop list entry. The router treats them as one route with multiple next hops and load balances traffic across that unified list. Due to an issue processing unilist ECMP routing updates, internal state corruption may occur, especially in large-scale ECMP unilist deployments, leading to the evo-aftmand process crashing, resulting in an evo-aftmand-bx core. Manual intervention is required to recover by rebooting the system or restarting the FPC.
This issue affects Junos OS Evolved on PTX :
from 24.4R2-EVO before 24.4R2-S3-EVO; from 25.2 before 25.2R2-EVO.
A command injection vulnerability in sftp command processing on Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved allows an attacker with authenticated CLI access to be able to bypass configured access protections to execute arbitrary shell commands within the context of the current user. The vulnerability allows an attacker to bypass command authorization restrictions assigned to their specific user account and execute commands that are available to the privilege level for which the user is assigned. For example, a user that is in the super-user login class, but restricted to executing specific CLI commands could exploit the vulnerability to execute any other command available to an unrestricted admin user. This vulnerability does not increase the privilege level of the user, but rather bypasses any CLI command restrictions by allowing full access to the shell. This issue affects Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved: All versions prior to 20.4R2-S2-EVO; 21.1 versions prior to 21.1R2-EVO; 21.2 versions prior to 21.2R1-S1-EVO, 21.2R2-EVO.
A local privilege escalation vulnerability in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows a local, low-privileged user to cause the Juniper DHCP daemon (jdhcpd) process to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS), or execute arbitrary commands as root. Continued processing of malicious input will repeatedly crash the system and sustain the Denial of Service (DoS) condition. Systems are only vulnerable if jdhcpd is running, which can be confirmed via the 'show system processes' command. For example: root@host# run show system processes extensive | match dhcp 26537 root -16 0 97568K 13692K RUN 0 0:01 3.71% jdhcpd This issue affects: Juniper Networks Junos OS: All versions, including the following supported releases: 15.1 versions prior to 15.1R7-S10; 17.4 versions prior to 17.4R3-S5; 18.3 versions prior to 18.3R3-S5; 18.4 versions prior to 18.4R3-S9; 19.1 versions prior to 19.1R3-S6; 19.2 versions prior to 19.2R1-S7, 19.2R3-S3; 19.3 versions prior to 19.3R2-S6, 19.3R3-S3; 19.4 versions prior to 19.4R3-S6; 20.1 versions prior to 20.1R2-S2, 20.1R3-S1; 20.2 versions prior to 20.2R3-S2; 20.3 versions prior to 20.3R3; 20.4 versions prior to 20.4R2-S1, 20.4R3; 21.1 versions prior to 21.1R1-S1, 21.1R2.
