The vMX Series software uses a predictable IP ID Sequence Number. This leaves the system as well as clients connecting through the device susceptible to a family of attacks which rely on the use of predictable IP ID sequence numbers as their base method of attack. This issue was found during internal product security testing. Affected releases are Juniper Networks Junos OS: 15.1 versions prior to 15.1F5 on vMX Series.
A Stack-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability in Flow Processing Daemon (flowd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause Denial of Service (DoS).
On all Junos OS MX Series platforms with SPC3 and MS-MPC/-MIC, when URL filtering is enabled and a specific URL request is received and processed, flowd will crash and restart. Continuous reception of the specific URL request will lead to a sustained Denial of Service (DoS) condition.
This issue affects: Junos OS:
all versions before 21.2R3-S6,
from 21.3 before 21.3R3-S5,
from 21.4 before 21.4R3-S5,

An Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions vulnerability in the the IKE daemon (iked) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on SRX Series, MX Series with SPC3 and NFX350 allows allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker sending specific mismatching parameters as part of the IPsec negotiation to trigger an iked crash leading to Denial of Service (DoS).
This issue is applicable to all platforms that run iked. This issue affects Junos OS on SRX Series, MX Series with SPC3 and NFX350:
All versions before 21.2R3-S8, from 21.4 before 21.4R3-S7, from 22.1 before 22.1R3-S2, from 22.2 before 22.2R3-S1, from 22.3 before 22.3R2-S1, 22.3R3, from 22.4 before 22.4R1-S2, 22.4R2, 22.4R3.
An Uncontrolled Resource Consumption vulnerability in the H.323 ALG (Application Layer Gateway) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on SRX Series and MX Series with SPC3 and MS-MPC/MIC, allows an unauthenticated network-based attacker to send specific packets causing traffic loss leading to Denial of Service (DoS).
Continued receipt and processing of these specific packets will sustain the Denial of Service condition.
The memory usage can be monitored using the below command.
user@host> show usp memory segment sha data objcache jsf This issue affects SRX Series and MX Series with SPC3 and MS-MPC/MIC:
20.4 before 20.4R3-S10, 21.2 before 21.2R3-S6, 21.3 before 21.3R3-S5, 21.4 before 21.4R3-S6, 22.1 before 22.1R3-S4, 22.2 before 22.2R3-S2, 22.3 before 22.3R3-S1, 22.4 before 22.4R3, 23.2 before 23.2R2.
An Uncontrolled Resource Consumption vulnerability in the http daemon (httpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on SRX Series, QFX Series, MX Series and EX Series allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause Denial-of-Service (DoS).
An attacker can send specific HTTPS connection requests to the device, triggering the creation of processes that are not properly terminated. Over time, this leads to resource exhaustion, ultimately causing the device to crash and restart.
The following command can be used to monitor the resource usage: user@host> show system processes extensive | match mgd | count
This issue affects Junos OS on SRX Series and EX Series: All versions before 21.4R3-S7, from 22.2 before 22.2R3-S4, from 22.3 before 22.3R3-S3, from 22.4 before 22.4R3-S2, from 23.2 before 23.2R2-S1, from 23.4 before 23.4R1-S2, 23.4R2.
An Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions vulnerability in the pfe (packet forwarding engine) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series causes a port within a pool to be blocked leading to Denial of Service (DoS).
In a DS-Lite (Dual-Stack Lite) and NAT (Network Address Translation) scenario, when crafted IPv6 traffic is received and prefix-length is set to 56, the ports assigned to the user will not be freed. Eventually, users cannot establish new connections. Affected FPC/PIC need to be manually restarted to recover. Following is the command to identify the issue:
user@host> show services nat source port-block HostIP ExternalIP PortBlock PortsUsed/ BlockState/ Range PortsTotal LeftTime(s) 2001:: x.x.x.x 58880-59391 256/2561 Active/- >>>>>>>>port still usedThis issue affects Junos OS on MX Series:

A Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop') vulnerability in the SIP application layer gateway (ALG) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on SRX Series and MX Series with MX-SPC3 or MS-MPC allows an unauthenticated network-based attacker sending specific SIP messages over TCP to crash the flow management process, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
On SRX Series, and MX Series with MX-SPC3 or MS-MPC service cards, receipt of multiple SIP messages causes the SIP headers to be parsed incorrectly, eventually causing a continuous loop and leading to a watchdog timer expiration, crashing the flowd process on SRX Series and MX Series with MX-SPC3, or mspmand process on MX Series with MS-MPC.
This issue only occurs over TCP. SIP messages sent over UDP cannot trigger this issue.
This issue affects Junos OS on SRX Series and MX Series with MX-SPC3 and MS-MPC:
all versions before 21.2R3-S10, from 21.4 before 21.4R3-S12, from 22.4 before 22.4R3-S8, from 23.2 before 23.2R2-S5, from 23.4 before 23.4R2-S6, from 24.2 before 24.2R2-S3, from 24.4 before 24.4R2-S1, from 25.2 before 25.2R1-S1, 25.2R2.
A Double Free vulnerability in the flow processing daemon (flowd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on SRX and MX Series allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause a Denial-of-Service (DoS). On all SRX and MX Series platforms, when during TCP session establishment a specific sequence of packets is encountered a double free happens. This causes flowd to crash and the respective FPC to restart.
This issue affects Junos OS on SRX and MX Series:
all versions before 22.4R3-S7, 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S3, 23.4 versions before 23.4R2-S4, 24.2 versions before 24.2R2.
A Missing Release of Memory after Effective Lifetime vulnerability in the DHCP daemon (jdhcpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series, allows an adjacent, unauthenticated attacker to cause a memory leak, that will eventually cause a complete Denial-of-Service (DoS).
In a DHCPv6 over PPPoE, or DHCPv6 over VLAN with Active lease query or Bulk lease query scenario, every subscriber logout will leak a small amount of memory. When all available memory has been exhausted, jdhcpd will crash and restart which causes a complete service impact until the process has recovered.
The memory usage of jdhcpd can be monitored with:
user@host> show system processes extensive | match jdhcpd
This issue affects Junos OS:
all versions before 22.4R3-S1, 23.2 versions before 23.2R2, 23.4 versions before 23.4R2.
An Improper Validation of Syntactic Correctness of Input vulnerability in the IPsec library used by kmd and iked of Juniper Networks Junos OS on SRX Series and MX Series allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause a complete Denial-of-Service (DoS).
If an affected device receives a specifically malformed first ISAKMP packet from the initiator, the kmd/iked process will crash and restart, which momentarily prevents new security associations (SAs) for from being established. Repeated exploitation of this vulnerability causes a complete inability to establish new VPN connections.
This issue affects Junos OS on
SRX Series and MX Series:
all versions before 22.4R3-S9, 23.2 version before 23.2R2-S6, 23.4 version before 23.4R2-S7, 24.2 versions before 24.2R2-S4, 24.4 versions before 24.4R2-S3, 25.2 versions before 25.2R1-S2, 25.2R2.
A NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in the Captive Portal Content Delivery (CPCD) services daemon (cpcd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series with MS-PIC, MS-SPC3, MS-MIC or MS-MPC allows an attacker to send malformed HTTP packets to the device thereby causing a Denial of Service (DoS), crashing the Multiservices PIC Management Daemon (mspmand) process thereby denying users the ability to login, while concurrently impacting other mspmand services and traffic through the device. Continued receipt and processing of these malformed packets will create a sustained Denial of Service (DoS) condition. While the Services PIC is restarting, all PIC services will be bypassed until the Services PIC completes its boot process. An attacker sending these malformed HTTP packets to the device who is not part of the Captive Portal experience is not able to exploit this issue. This issue is not applicable to MX RE-based CPCD platforms. This issue affects: Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series 17.3 version 17.3R1 and later versions prior to 17.4 versions 17.4R2-S9, 17.4R3-S2; 18.1 versions prior to 18.1R3-S9; 18.2 versions prior to 18.2R3-S3; 18.3 versions prior to 18.3R3-S1; 18.4 versions prior to 18.4R3; 19.1 versions prior to 19.1R2-S2, 19.1R3; 19.2 versions prior to 19.2R2; 19.3 versions prior to 19.3R3. This issue does not affect: Juniper Networks Junos OS versions prior to 17.3R1.

This issue does not affect MX-SPC3 or SRX Series devices.
A Buffer Copy without Checking Size of Input vulnerability in the
Session Initialization Protocol (SIP) ALG of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series and SRX Series allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS).
When memory utilization is high, and specific SIP packets are received, flowd/mspmand crashes. While the system recovers automatically, the disruption can significantly impact service stability. Continuous receipt of these specific SIP packets, while high utilization is present, will cause a sustained DoS condition. The utilization is outside the attackers control, so they would not be able to deterministically exploit this. This issue affects Junos OS on SRX Series and MX Series:
All versions before 22.4R3-S7, from 23.2 before 23.2R2-S4, from 23.4 before 23.4R2-S5, from 24.2 before 24.2R2.
On SRX Series and MX Series devices with a Service PIC with any ALG enabled, a crafted TCP/IP response packet processed through the device results in memory corruption leading to a flowd daemon crash. Sustained crafted response packets lead to repeated crashes of the flowd daemon which results in an extended Denial of Service condition. Affected releases are Juniper Networks Junos OS: 12.1X46 versions prior to 12.1X46-D60 on SRX series; 12.3X48 versions prior to 12.3X48-D35 on SRX series; 14.1 versions prior to 14.1R9 on MX series; 14.2 versions prior to 14.2R8 on MX series; 15.1X49 versions prior to 15.1X49-D60 on SRX series; 15.1 versions prior to 15.1R5-S8, 15.1F6-S9, 15.1R6-S4, 15.1R7 on MX series; 16.1 versions prior to 16.1R6 on MX series; 16.2 versions prior to 16.2R3 on MX series; 17.1 versions prior to 17.1R2-S4, 17.1R3 on MX series. An Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions in packet processing on the MS-MPC/MS-MIC utilized by Juniper Networks Junos OS allows a malicious attacker to send a specific packet, triggering the MS-MPC/MS-MIC to reset, causing a Denial of Service (DoS). Continued receipt and processing of this packet will create a sustained Denial of Service (DoS) condition. This issue only affects specific versions of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series: 17.3R3-S11; 17.4R2-S13; 17.4R3 prior to 17.4R3-S5; 18.1R3-S12; 18.2R2-S8, 18.2R3-S7, 18.2R3-S8; 18.3R3-S4; 18.4R3-S7; 19.1R3-S4, 19.1R3-S5; 19.2R1-S6; 19.3R3-S2; 19.4R2-S4, 19.4R2-S5; 19.4R3-S2; 20.1R2-S1; 20.2R2-S2, 20.2R2-S3, 20.2R3; 20.3R2, 20.3R2-S1; 20.4R1, 20.4R1-S1, 20.4R2; 21.1R1; This issue does not affect any version of Juniper Networks Junos OS prior to 15.1X49-D240;
A vulnerability in the processing of traffic matching a firewall filter containing a syslog action in Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series with MPC10/MPC11 cards installed, PTX10003 and PTX10008 Series devices, will cause the line card to crash and restart, creating a Denial of Service (DoS). Continued receipt and processing of packets matching the firewall filter can create a sustained Denial of Service (DoS) condition. When traffic hits the firewall filter, configured on lo0 or any physical interface on the line card, containing a term with a syslog action (e.g. 'term <name> then syslog'), the affected line card will crash and restart, impacting traffic processing through the ports of the line card. This issue only affects MX Series routers with MPC10 or MPC11 line cards, and PTX10003 or PTX10008 Series packet transport routers. No other platforms or models of line cards are affected by this issue. Note: This issue has also been identified and described in technical service bulletin TSB17931 (login required). This issue affects: Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series: 19.3 versions prior to 19.3R3-S2; 19.4 versions prior to 19.4R3-S2; 20.1 versions prior to 20.1R3; 20.2 versions prior to 20.2R2-S2, 20.2R3; 20.3 versions prior to 20.3R3; 20.4 versions prior to 20.4R2. Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved on PTX10003, PTX10008: All versions prior to 20.4R2-EVO. This issue does not affect Juniper Networks Junos OS versions prior to 19.3R1.
When a device running Juniper Networks Junos OS with MPC7, MPC8, or MPC9 line cards installed and the system is configured for inline IP reassembly, used by L2TP, MAP-E, GRE, and IPIP, the packet forwarding engine (PFE) will become disabled upon receipt of small fragments requiring reassembly, generating the following error messages: [LOG: Err] MQSS(2): WO: Packet Error - Error Packets 1, Connection 29 [LOG: Err] eachiphmcifrxintrhandler(7259): EA[2:0]: HMCIF Rx: Injected checksum error detected on WO response - Chunk Address 0x0 [LOG: Err] MQSS(2): DRD: RORD1: CMD reorder ID error - Command 11, Reorder ID 1960, QID 0 [LOG: Err] MQSS(2): DRD: UNROLL0: HMC chunk address error in stage 5 - Chunk Address: 0xc38fb1 [LOG: Notice] Error: /fpc/0/pfe/0/cm/0/MQSS(2)/2/MQSSCMERRORDRDRORDENGINTREGCMDFSMSTATEERR (0x2203cc), scope: pfe, category: functional, severity: major, module: MQSS(2), type: DRDRORDENGINT: CMD FSM State Error [LOG: Notice] Performing action cmalarm for error /fpc/0/pfe/0/cm/0/MQSS(2)/2/MQSSCMERRORDRDRORDENGINTREGCMDFSMSTATEERR (0x2203cc) in module: MQSS(2) with scope: pfe category: functional level: major [LOG: Notice] Performing action get-state for error /fpc/0/pfe/0/cm/0/MQSS(2)/2/MQSSCMERRORDRDRORDENGINTREGCMDFSMSTATEERR (0x2203cc) in module: MQSS(2) with scope: pfe category: functional level: major [LOG: Notice] Performing action disable-pfe for error /fpc/0/pfe/0/cm/0/MQSS(2)/2/MQSSCMERRORDRDRORDENGINTREGCMDFSMSTATEERR (0x2203cc) in module: MQSS(2) with scope: pfe category: functional level: major By continuously sending fragmented packets that cannot be reassembled, an attacker can repeatedly disable the PFE causing a sustained Denial of Service (DoS). This issue affects Juniper Networks Junos OS: 17.2 versions prior to 17.2R3-S4 on MX Series; 17.3 versions prior to 17.3R3-S8 on MX Series; 17.4 versions prior to 17.4R2-S9, 17.4R3-S1 on MX Series; 18.1 versions prior to 18.1R3-S10 on MX Series; 18.2 versions prior to 18.2R2-S6, 18.2R3-S3 on MX Series; 18.2X75 versions prior to 18.2X75-D34, 18.2X75-D41, 18.2X75-D53, 18.2X75-D65, 18.2X75-D430 on MX Series; 18.3 versions prior to 18.3R1-S7, 18.3R2-S4, 18.3R3-S2 on MX Series; 18.4 versions prior to 18.4R1-S6, 18.4R2-S4, 18.4R3 on MX Series; 19.1 versions prior to 19.1R1-S4, 19.1R2-S1, 19.1R3 on MX Series; 19.2 versions prior to 19.2R1-S3, 19.2R2 on MX Series; 19.3 versions prior to 19.3R2-S2, 19.3R3 on MX Series.
