A security vulnerability exists in FBX that could lead to remote code execution. To mitigate this vulnerability, the ability to insert FBX files has been disabled in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook for Windows and Mac. Versions of Office that had this feature enabled will no longer have access to it. This includes Office 2019, Office 2021, Office LTSC for Mac 2021, and Microsoft 365. As of February 13, 2024, the ability to insert FBX files has also been disabled in 3D Viewer. 3D models in Office documents that were previously inserted from a FBX file will continue to work as expected unless the Link to File option was chosen at insert time. This change is effective as of the January 9, 2024 security update.
3D Viewer Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
3D Viewer Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
A user may be tricked into opening a malicious FBX file which may exploit a use-after-free vulnerability in Autodesk FBX SDK 2020 version causing the application to reference a memory location controlled by an unauthorized third party, thereby running arbitrary code on the system.

3D Viewer Remote Code Execution Vulnerability This CVE ID is unique from CVE-2021-43209.
A user may be tricked into opening a malicious FBX file that may exploit a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in Autodesk® FBX® SDK 2020 or prior which may lead to code execution.
An Out-Of-Bounds Write Vulnerability in Autodesk® FBX® SDK version 2020 or prior may lead to code execution through maliciously crafted FBX files or information disclosure.
3D Viewer Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
3D Viewer Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Microsoft 3D Viewer. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the parsing of 3MF files. The issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to performing operations on the object. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process at low integrity.

3D Viewer Information Disclosure Vulnerability
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to disclose sensitive information on affected installations of Microsoft 3D Viewer. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The ZDI has assigned a CVSS rating of 3.3.
