An industry-wide issue was found in the way many modern microprocessor designs have implemented speculative execution of Load & Store instructions (a commonly used performance optimization).
It relies on the presence of a precisely-defined instruction sequence in the privileged code as well as the fact that memory read from address to which a recent memory write has occurred may see an older value and subsequently cause an update into the microprocessor's data cache even for speculatively executed instructions that never actually commit (retire).
As a result, an unprivileged attacker could use this flaw to read privileged memory by conducting targeted cache side-channel attacks.

Vulnerability in the MySQL Server component of Oracle MySQL (subcomponent: Server: Error Handling ). Supported versions that are affected are 5.5.53 and earlier, 5.6.34 and earlier and 5.7.16 and earlier. Difficult to exploit vulnerability allows high privileged attacker with logon to the infrastructure where MySQL Server executes to compromise MySQL Server. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all MySQL Server accessible data.

It was discovered that the mysqldsafe could read ledir value - which specifies the directory where mysqld is stored - from configuration file. This could allow a user with privileges to write to some mysql configuration file - either mysql OS user, or any local OS user able to write to the config via some other way, e.g. by exploiting CVE-2016-6662 - to escalate their privileges to root if mysqldsafe was run with root privileges.
This problem is related to this change applied as part of the CVE-2016-6662 fix:
https://github.com/mysql/mysql-server/commit/684a165f28b3718160a3e4c5ebd18a465d85e97c#diff-144aa2f11374843c969d96b7b84247eaR211
It introduced restriction that mysqld and mysqldversion options can only be specified on the command line and can not be defined in a configuration file. However, such restriction was trivial to bypass while ledir was not restricted in a similar way.
Restriction for ledir was added in MySQL versions 5.5.54, 5.6.35, and 5.7.17. The following related entry can be found in the release notes:
The --ledir option now is accepted only on the command line, not in option files.

The CVE was made public via Oracle CPU January 2017:

Multiple cases of insecure use of chmod and chown were found in the MySQL init script:
- In database directory initialization code: https://github.com/mysql/mysql-server/blob/mysql-5.6.34/packaging/rpm-oel/mysql.init#L97
- In code handling error log file creation and permission setting: https://github.com/mysql/mysql-server/blob/mysql-5.6.34/packaging/rpm-oel/mysql.init#L73
The mysql OS user could use these flaws to escalate privileges to root.
Note that the second issue is only exploitable in configurations where log file is stored in a directory writable to the mysql OS user. If log file is stored in the /var/log directory, mysql user is not able to replace it with a link to some other file.
This issue was fixed in MySQL versions 5.5.54, 5.6.35, and 5.7.17. The following related entry can be found in the release notes:
Initialization scripts create the error log file only if the base directory is /var/log or /var/lib.

It was reported [1] that the gdImageCreateFromXpm() function in libgd could dereference a NULL pointer, noting:
"The call to strlen() parses image.colorTable[i].ccolor which is initialised as NULL if the particular color mapping uses a different key (such as monochrome/monovisual)."
This was reported against PHP, which includes an embedded copy of the gd library. CVE-2014-2497 was assigned to this issue [2].

Martin Holst Swende discovered a flaw in the way modheaders handled chunked requests. A remote attacker could use this flaw to bypass intended modheaders restrictions, allowing them to send requests to applications that include headers that should have been removed by modheaders.

A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in libtasn1's asn1readvaluetype() / asn1readvalue() function. If an application called the function with a NULL value for an ivalue argument to determine the amount of memory needed to store data to be read from the ASN.1 input, libtasn1 could incorrectly attempt to dereference the NULL pointer, causing an application using the library to crash.
The libtasn1 library is used by the GnuTLS library to parse X.509 certificates. The gnutls packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and earlier use bundled libtasn1, packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and later depend on the library provided by a separate libtasn1 package.

Multiple buffer boundary check issues were discovered in libtasn1 library, causing it to read beyond the boundary of an allocated buffer. An untrusted ASN.1 input could cause an application using the library to crash.

GStreamer before 1.4.5, as used in Mozilla Firefox before 38.0, Firefox ESR 31.x before 31.7, and Thunderbird before 31.7 on Linux, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (buffer over-read and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted H.264 video data in an m4v file.
MIT Kerberos 5 (aka krb5) before 1.12.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (buffer over-read and application crash) by injecting invalid tokens into a GSSAPI application session.
