This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on affected installations of VMware Workstation. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the VGAuthService service. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied OpenSSL configuration file prior to using it. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to escalate privileges and execute arbitrary code in the context of SYSTEM.

VMware App Volumes 2.x prior to 2.18.6 and VMware App Volumes 4 prior to 2006 contain a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. A malicious actor with access to create and edit applications or create storage groups, may be able to inject malicious script which will be executed by a victim's browser when viewing.
