Pro Macros provides XWiki rendering macros. Missing escaping in the Viewpdf macro allows any user with view right on the CKEditor.HTMLConverter page or edit or comment right on any page to perform remote code execution. Other macros like Viewppt are vulnerable to the same kind of attack. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.10.1.

Impact

In XWiki Platform, it's possible for a user to execute any content with the right of an existing document's content author, provided the user have edit right on it. The reason for this is that the edit action sets the content without modifying the content author.

To reproduce: Log in as a user without programming or script right. Open the URL <xwiki-host>/xwiki/bin/edit/<document>/?content=%7B%7Bgroovy%7D%7Dprintln%28%22Hello+from+Groovy%21%22%29%7B%7B%2Fgroovy%7D%7D&xpage=view, where <xwiki-host> is the URL of your XWiki installation and <document> is the path to a document whose content author has programming right (or script right) and on which the current user has edit right.

The text "Hello from Groovy!" is displayed in the page content, showing that the Groovy macro has been executed, which should not be the case for a user without programming right.

Patches

This has been patched in XWiki 14.10.6 and 15.2RC1.

Workarounds

There are no known workarounds for it.

Impact

In XWiki Platform, it's possible to execute content with the right of any user if you can make this user follow a crafted URL. This is possible because edit action sets and thereby executes the page content without checking for a cross-site request forgert (CSRF) token.

To reproduce: Get a user with programming rights to visit the URL <xwiki-host>/xwiki/bin/edit/Main/?content=%7B%7Bgroovy%7D%7Dprintln%28%22Hello+from+Groovy%21%22%29%7B%7B%2Fgroovy%7D%7D&xpage=view, where <xwiki-host> is the URL of your XWiki installation. This can be done by embedding an image with this URL.

The text "Hello from Groovy!" is displayed in the page content, showing that the Groovy macro has been executed.

Patches

This has been patched in XWiki 14.10.7 and 15.2-RC-1.

Workarounds There are no known workarounds for it.

XSS

XWiki Platform Web Parent POM contains Web resources for the XWiki platform, a generic wiki platform. Starting with version 1.0 and prior to versions 13.10.6 and 14.30-rc-1, it's possible to store JavaScript which will be executed by anyone viewing the history of an attachment containing javascript in its name. This issue has been patched in XWiki 13.10.6 and 14.3RC1. As a workaround, it is possible to replace viewattachrev.vm, the entry point for this attack, by a patched version from the patch without updating XWiki.

XWiki Platform is a generic wiki platform offering runtime services for applications built on top of it. In affected versions any user with SCRIPT right can save a document with the right of the current user which allow accessing API requiring programming right if the current user has programming right. This has been patched in XWiki 13.0. Users are advised to update to resolve this issue. The only known workaround is to limit SCRIPT access.

Impact When using default XWiki configuration, it's possible for an attacker to upload an SVG containing a script executed when executing the download action on the file.

Patches This problem has been patched so that the default configuration doesn't allow to display the SVG files in the browser.

Workarounds This issue can be fixed without the patch by setting properly the configuration to download or display files, see: https://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Documentation/AdminGuide/Attachments#HAttachmentdisplayordownload
