ILIAS before 9.24, 10.x before 10.12 and 11.x before 11.5 contains an argument injection vulnerability in assImagemapQuestionGUI that allows question authors to inject ImageMagick convert options via uploaded image filenames. Attackers can embed tab-separated options, which escapeshellcmd() does not neutralise, to write a PHP file under the web root and achieve remote code execution.
An issue was discovered in ILIAS 6.23, 7 before 7.22, and 8.1. An attacker can execute arbitrary code via ZIP upload.
A security flaw has been discovered in ILIAS up to 9.21/10.9/11.2. This affects the function ilObjMediaObjectGUI::uploadMultipleSubtitleFileObject of the file Services/Repository/Service/Resources/ZipAdapter.php of the component MediaPool. The manipulation results in unrestricted upload. The attack may be launched remotely. Upgrading to version 9.22, 10.10 and 11.3 is able to mitigate this issue. The patch is identified as ef5d7f99fe1ea0381db04b333a2906548b3590e4/b0d61be43671b6bfe91baf469a5ee11e764f2e23. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.
ILIAS before versions 9.22, 10.10, and 11.3 contains an arbitrary file read vulnerability in the SOAP addFile method that allows authenticated users to read server files by supplying crafted XML with COPY-mode imports. Attackers can construct absolute file paths through an unsandboxed import directory and retrieve sensitive files including configuration files containing database credentials and setup passwords.
ILIAS before versions 9.22, 10.10, and 11.3 contains an unauthenticated PHP object injection vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code by injecting serialized objects through the LTI authentication endpoint and triggering deserialization via the Shibboleth back-channel logout endpoint. Attackers can write arbitrary serialized objects into session storage, then exploit an available POP gadget through the logout endpoint's unrestricted deserialization to write attacker-controlled PHP content to a web-accessible path and achieve remote code execution as the web server user.
A vulnerability was identified in ILIAS Learning Management System 11.0. This issue affects the function ilTrQuery::executeQueries of the file components/ILIAS/Tracking/classes/class.ilTrQuery.php of the component Learning Progress Tracking. Such manipulation of the argument trouptablenav leads to sql injection. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit is publicly available and might be used. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component. This issue was independently identified and fixed internally by the vendor's own security team ahead of this report.
ILIAS Learning Management System 4.3 contains a server-side request forgery vulnerability that allows attackers to read local files through portfolio PDF export functionality. Attackers can inject a script that uses XMLHttpRequest to retrieve local file contents when the portfolio is exported to PDF.
A vulnerability has been found in ILIAS up to 8.23/9.13/10.1. This affects the function unserialize of the component Base64 Decoding Handler. Such manipulation of the argument fsettings leads to deserialization. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Upgrading to version 8.24, 9.14 and 10.2 is able to mitigate this issue. It is advisable to upgrade the affected component.
A flaw has been found in ILIAS up to 8.23/9.13/10.1. Affected by this issue is the function unserialize of the component Test Import. This manipulation causes deserialization. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Upgrading to version 8.24, 9.14 and 10.2 can resolve this issue. Upgrading the affected component is advised.
A vulnerability was detected in ILIAS up to 8.23/9.13/10.1. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component Certificate Import Handler. The manipulation results in Remote Code Execution. The attack may be performed from remote. Upgrading to version 8.24, 9.14 and 10.2 addresses this issue. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.
A Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the "Import of organizational units and title of organizational unit" feature in ILIAS 7.20 to 7.29 and ILIAS 8.4 to 8.10 as well as ILIAS 9.0 allows remote authenticated attackers with administrative privileges to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via XML file upload.
A Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in ILIAS 7 before 7.30 and ILIAS 8 before 8.11 allows remote authenticated attackers with tutor privileges to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via XML file upload.
A Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the "Import of Users and login name of user" feature in ILIAS 7 before 7.30 and ILIAS 8 before 8.11 allows remote authenticated attackers with administrative privileges to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via XML file upload.
A Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the "Import of user role and title of user role" feature in ILIAS 7 before 7.30 and ILIAS 8 before 8.11 allows remote authenticated attackers with administrative privileges to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via XML file upload.
ILIAS 7 before 7.30 and ILIAS 8 before 8.11 as well as ILIAS 9.0 allow remote authenticated attackers with administrative privileges to execute operating system commands via file uploads with dangerous types.
The workflow-engine of ILIAS before 7.23 and 8 before 8.3 allows remote authenticated users to run arbitrary system commands on the application server as the application user via a malicious BPMN2 workflow definition file.
The workflow-engine of ILIAS before 7.23 and 8 before 8.3 allows remote authenticated users to run arbitrary system commands on the application server as the application user by uploading a workflow definition file with a malicious filename.
ILIAS 7.25 (2023-09-12) allows any authenticated user to execute arbitrary operating system commands remotely, when a highly privileged account accesses an XSS payload. The injected commands are executed via the exec() function in the execQuoted() method of the ilUtil class (/Services/Utilities/classes/class.ilUtil.php) This allows attackers to inject malicious commands into the system, potentially compromising the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the ILIAS installation and the underlying operating system.
The Learning Module in ILIAS 7.25 (2023-09-12 release) allows an attacker (with basic user privileges) to achieve a high-impact Directory Traversal attack on confidentiality and availability. By exploiting this network-based vulnerability, the attacker can move specified directories, normally outside the documentRoot, to a publicly accessible location via the PHP function rename(). This results in a total loss of confidentiality, exposing sensitive resources, and potentially denying access to the affected component and the operating system's components. To exploit this, an attacker must manipulate a POST request during the creation of an exercise unit, by modifying the oldname and newname parameters via directory traversal. However, it's essential to note that, when exploiting this vulnerability, the specified directory will be relocated from its original location, rendering all files obtained from there unavailable.
ILIAS (2013-09-12 release) contains a medium-criticality Directory Traversal local file inclusion vulnerability in the ScormAicc module. An attacker with a privileged account, typically holding the tutor role, can exploit this to gain unauthorized access to and potentially retrieve confidential files stored on the web server. The attacker can access files that are readable by the web server user www-data; this may include sensitive configuration files and documents located outside the documentRoot. The vulnerability is exploited by an attacker who manipulates the file parameter in a URL, inserting directory traversal sequences in order to access unauthorized files. This manipulation allows the attacker to retrieve sensitive files, such as /etc/passwd, potentially compromising the system's security. This issue poses a significant risk to confidentiality and is remotely exploitable over the internet.
The password reset function in ILIAS 7.0beta1 through 7.20 and 8.0beta1 through 8.1 allows remote attackers to take over the account.
ILIAS 7.21 and 8.0beta1 through 8.2 is vulnerable to reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS).

ILIAS before 7.16 allows OS Command Injection.
ILIAS before 7.16 allows External Control of File Name or Path.
In ILIAS through 7.10, lack of verification when changing an email address (on the Profile Page) allows remote attackers to take over accounts.
A local file inclusion vulnerability in ILIAS before 5.3.19, 5.4.10 and 6.0 allows remote authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code via the import of personal data.
An information disclosure vulnerability in ILIAS before 5.3.19, 5.4.12 and 6.0 allows remote authenticated attackers to get the upload data path via a workspace upload.
