A flaw was found in Intel® VT-d products. Entries from the context cache on some types of context cache invalidations may not be properly invalidated which may allow an authenticated user to potentially enable escalation of privilege via local access. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and integrity as well as system availability.

A flaw was found in Intel graphics hardware (GPU) where a local attacker with the ability to issue commands to the GPU which could inadvertently lead to memory corruption and possibly privilege escalation.

The attacker could use the GPU blitter to perform privilege MMIO operations not limited to the address space required to function correctly. This would expose the blitter to access kernel memory with a specially crafted request to the blitter.

Affected hardware:

- Ivy Bridge(Gen 7) and later, - Cherry Trail (Gen8) and newer mobile, desktop and embedded processors. - Intel Xeon E3-1200 v4 and later product families.

A flaw was found in hw. The Intra-mode BTI refers to a variant of Branch Target Injection aka SpectreV2 (BTI) where an indirect branch speculates to an aliased predictor entry for a different indirect branch in the same predictor mode, and a disclosure gadget at the predicted target transiently executes. These predictor entries may contain targets corresponding to the targets of an indirect near jump, indirect near call, and near return instructions, even if these branches were only transiently executed. The managed runtimes provide an attacker with the means to create the aliasing required for intra-mode BTI attacks.

Remedy

Disabling unprivileged eBPF effectively mitigates the known attack vectors for exploiting intra-mode branch injections attacks. The default Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel prevents unprivileged users from being able to use eBPF by the kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled sysctl. For the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 the eBPF for unprivileged users is always disabled. For the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 to confirm the current state, inspect the sysctl with the command: # cat /proc/sys/kernel/unprivileged_bpf_disabled The setting of 1 would mean that unprivileged users can not use eBPF, mitigating the flaw. Continue to enable SMEP and Enhanced IBRS. This is the default setting on eligible CPUs.

Remedy

To mitigate the primary known attack vector, disable unprivileged eBPF: $ sudo sysctl kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled=1 or $ sudo sysctl kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled=2

A flaw was found in Intel graphics hardware (GPU) where a local attacker with the ability to issue an ioctl could trigger a hardware level crash if MMIO registers were read while the graphics card was in a low-power state.

This creates a denial of service situation and the GPU and connected displays will remain unusable until a reboot occurs.

Intel plans to release BIOS firmware, along with updates supplied by Red Hat should mitigate this vulnerability.

Some older hardware will not have BIOS firmware update and will rely on operating system level protection to prevent access while the device is in low-power states.
