Buffer Overflow
CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

A heap buffer overflow flaw was found in IPsec ESP transformation code in net/ipv4/esp4.c and net/ipv6/esp6.c. This flaw allows a local attacker with a normal user privilege to overwrite kernel heap objects and may cause a local privilege escalation threat.

There exists a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel through iouring and the IORINGOPSPLICE operation. If IORINGOPSPLICE is missing the IOWQWORKFILES flag, which signals that the operation won't use current->nsproxy, so its reference counter is not increased. This assumption is not always true as calling iosplice on specific files will call the getuts function which will use current->nsproxy leading to invalidly decreasing its reference counter later causing the use-after-free vulnerability. We recommend upgrading to version 5.10.160 or above

An out-of-bounds (OOB) memory access flaw was found in fs/f2fs/node.c in the f2fs module in the Linux kernel in versions before 5.12.0-rc4. A bounds check failure allows a local attacker to gain access to out-of-bounds memory leading to a system crash or a leak of internal kernel information. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to system availability.

Abnormal termination of an application can a cause a denial of service.

Applications performing certificate name checks (e.g., TLS clients checking server certificates) may attempt to read an invalid memory address when comparing the expected name with an otherName subject alternative name of an X.509 certificate. This may result in an exception that terminates the application program.

Note that basic certificate chain validation (signatures, dates, ...) is not affected, the denial of service can occur only when the application also specifies an expected DNS name, Email address or IP address.

TLS servers rarely solicit client certificates, and even when they do, they generally don't perform a name check against a "reference identifier" (expected identity), but rather extract the presented identity after checking the certificate chain. So TLS servers are generally not affected and the severity of the issue is Moderate.

The FIPS modules in 3.3, 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0 are not affected by this issue. OpenSSL 1.1.1 and 1.0.2 are also not affected by this issue.

OpenSSL 3.3, 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0 are vulnerable to this issue.

OpenSSL 3.3 users should upgrade to OpenSSL 3.3.2

OpenSSL 3.2 users should upgrade to OpenSSL 3.2.3

OpenSSL 3.1 users should upgrade to OpenSSL 3.1.7

OpenSSL 3.0 users should upgrade to OpenSSL 3.0.15

CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

A flaw in the Linux Kernel found. If unprivileged users can mount FUSE filesystems, then can trigger use after free (UAF) that reads of write() buffers, allowing theft of (partial) /etc/shadow hashes or any other data from filesystem.

FUSE allows the userspace filesystem to specify on FUSEOPEN whether the file should use the normal kernel pagecache for handling read()/write() or just send FUSEREAD/FUSEWRITE requests directly to the userspace filesystem (using the flag FOPENDIRECTIO in fuseopenout::openflags).

In FOPENDIRECTIO mode, fusefilewriteiter() calls fusedirectwriteiter(), which normally calls fusedirectio(), which then imports the write buffer with fusegetuserpages(), which uses iovitergetpages() to grab references to userspace pages instead of actually copying memory.

On the filesystem device side, these pages can then either be read to userspace (via fusedevread()), or splice()d over into a pipe using fusedevspliceread() as pipe buffers with &nostealpipebufops.

This is wrong because after fusedevdoread() unlocks the FUSE request, the userspace filesystem can mark the request as completed, causing write() to return. At that point, the write buffer may be reused for other purposes, and the userspace filesystem should no longer have access to it.

Guest triggered use-after-free in Linux xen-netback A malicious or buggy network PV frontend can force Linux netback to disable the interface and terminate the receive kernel thread associated with queue 0 in response to the frontend sending a malformed packet. Such kernel thread termination will lead to a use-after-free in Linux netback when the backend is destroyed, as the kernel thread associated with queue 0 will have already exited and thus the call to kthreadstop will be performed against a stale pointer.

XSS

Impact Accepting the value of various Text options of the Datepicker widget from untrusted sources may execute untrusted code. For example, initializing the datepicker in the following way: js $( "#datepicker" ).datepicker( { showButtonPanel: true, showOn: "both", closeText: "<script>doEvilThing( 'closeText XSS' )</script>", currentText: "<script>doEvilThing( 'currentText XSS' )</script>", prevText: "<script>doEvilThing( 'prevText XSS' )</script>", nextText: "<script>doEvilThing( 'nextText XSS' )</script>", buttonText: "<script>doEvilThing( 'buttonText XSS' )</script>", appendText: "<script>doEvilThing( 'appendText XSS' )</script>", } ); will call doEvilThing with 6 different parameters coming from all Text options.

Patches The issue is fixed in jQuery UI 1.13.0. The values passed to various Text options are now always treated as pure text, not HTML.

Workarounds A workaround is to not accept the value of the Text options from untrusted sources.

Buffer Overflow
CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

A stack-based buffer overflow in nscd was reported and assigned CVE-2024-33599.

Reference: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/showbug.cgi?id=31677

---

nscd/netgroupcache.c (addinnetgrX):

497 struct indataset 498 { 499 struct datahead head; 500 innetgroupresponseheader resp; 501 } dataset 502 = (struct indataset ) mempoolalloc (db, 503 sizeof (dataset) + req->keylen, 504 1);

mempoolalloc fails and returns NULL.

This is possible if posixfallocate fails and the retry fails.

505 struct indataset datasetmem; 506 bool cacheable = true; 507 if (glibcunlikely (dataset == NULL)) 508 { 509 cacheable = false; 510 dataset = &datasetmem;

This structure has no room for req->keylen material.

511 } 512 513 dataheadinitpos (&dataset->head, sizeof (dataset) + req->keylen, 514 sizeof (innetgroupresponseheader), 515 he == NULL ? 0 : dh->nreloads + 1, result->head.ttl); 516 / Set the notfound status and timeout based on the result from 517 getnetgrent. / 518 dataset->head.notfound = result->head.notfound; 519 dataset->head.timeout = timeout; 520 521 dataset->resp.version = NSCDVERSION; 522 dataset->resp.found = result->resp.found; 523 / Until we find a matching entry the result is 0. / 524 dataset->resp.result = 0; 525 526 char keycopy = memcpy ((char ) (dataset + 1), group, req->keylen);

This copies up to req->keylen material to a structure that has no storage space for it.

This was detected by static code analysis.

It will only happen in the case the database runs out of memory/storage while expanding the netgroup cache.

The group entries overwrite other data on the stack after datasetmem.

The workaround is not to cache the netgroup if this is impacting the use of the application.
