A security regression (CVE-2006-5051) was discovered in OpenSSH's server (sshd). There is a race condition which can lead sshd to handle some signals in an unsafe manner. An unauthenticated, remote attacker may be able to trigger it by failing to authenticate within a set time period.
GNU C Library could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by an out-of-bounds write in the ISO-2022-CN-EXT plugin. By sending specially crafted input, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to overwrite critical data structures and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application to crash.
Abnormal termination of an application can a cause a denial of service.
Applications performing certificate name checks (e.g., TLS clients checking server certificates) may attempt to read an invalid memory address when comparing the expected name with an otherName subject alternative name of an X.509 certificate. This may result in an exception that terminates the application program.
Note that basic certificate chain validation (signatures, dates, ...) is not affected, the denial of service can occur only when the application also specifies an expected DNS name, Email address or IP address.
TLS servers rarely solicit client certificates, and even when they do, they generally don't perform a name check against a "reference identifier" (expected identity), but rather extract the presented identity after checking the certificate chain. So TLS servers are generally not affected and the severity of the issue is Moderate.
The FIPS modules in 3.3, 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0 are not affected by this issue. OpenSSL 1.1.1 and 1.0.2 are also not affected by this issue.
OpenSSL 3.3, 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0 are vulnerable to this issue.
OpenSSL 3.3 users should upgrade to OpenSSL 3.3.2
OpenSSL 3.2 users should upgrade to OpenSSL 3.2.3
OpenSSL 3.1 users should upgrade to OpenSSL 3.1.7
OpenSSL 3.0 users should upgrade to OpenSSL 3.0.15

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ip6tunnel: make sure to pull inner header in ip6tnlrcv()
syzbot found ip6tnlrcv() could access unitiliazed data [1].
Call pskbinetmaypull() to fix this, and initialize ipv6h variable after this call as it can change skb->head.

A flaw was found in the SQL plugin shipped with Cyrus SASL. The vulnerability occurs due to failure to properly escape SQL input and leads to an improper input validation vulnerability. This flaw allows an attacker to execute arbitrary SQL commands and the ability to change the passwords for other accounts allowing escalation of privileges.
A security vulnerability was found in zlib. The flaw triggered a heap-based buffer in inflate in the inflate.c function via a large gzip header extra field. This flaw is only applicable in the call inflateGetHeader.
A flaw was found in OpenSSL. The issue in CVE-2022-1292 did not find other places in the crehash script where it possibly passed the file names of certificates being hashed to a command executed through the shell. Some operating systems distribute this script in a manner where it is automatically executed. On these operating systems, this flaw allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the script.
A vulnerability was found in OpenSSL 1.0.2. When an application encounters a fatal protocol error and then calls SSLshutdown() twice, OpenSSL can respond differently to the calling application if a 0 byte record is received with invalid padding compared to if a 0 byte record is received with an invalid MAC. This difference in behaviour can be detected by a remote peer, then this amounts to a padding oracle that could be used to decrypt data. In order for this to be exploitable "non-stitched" ciphersuites must be in use. Also the application must call SSLshutdown() twice even if a protocol error has occurred (applications should not do this but some do anyway). AEAD ciphersuites are not impacted. This issue does not impact OpenSSL 1.1.1 or 1.1.0.

A flaw was found in libxml2. Parsing a XML document with the XMLPARSEHUGE option enabled can result in an integer overflow because safety checks were missing in some functions. Also, the xmlParseEntityValue function didn't have any length limitation.
A flaw was found in the libxml2 library in functions used to manipulate the xmlBuf and the xmlBuffer types. A substantial input causes values to calculate buffer sizes to overflow, resulting in an out-of-bounds write.
A flaw was found in libxml2. A call to the xmlGetID function can return a pointer already freed when parsing an XML document with the XMLPARSEDTDVALID option and without the XMLPARSENOENT option, resulting in a use-after-free issue.
A vulnerability was found in libpcre in PCRE before 8.44 allows an integer overflow via a large number after a (?C substring.

A buffer overflow was discovered in the GNU C Library's dynamic loader ld.so while processing the GLIBCTUNABLES environment variable. This issue could allow a local attacker to use maliciously crafted GLIBCTUNABLES environment variables when launching binaries with SUID permission to execute code with elevated privileges.
Certifi 2024.07.04 removes root certificates from "GLOBALTRUST" from the root store. These are in the process of being removed from Mozilla's trust store.
GLOBALTRUST's root certificates are being removed pursuant to an investigation which identified "long-running and unresolved compliance issues". Conclusions of Mozilla's investigation can be found here.
A command injection vulnerability was found in Python 2.x and 3.x, specifically within the mailcap module. Mailcap core-module is based on the format documented in RFC 1524. The “findmatch()” function does not sanitise the second argument (filename). As a result, the legitimate command (that is used for opening the specified mime type) is concatenated with an arbitrary command, injected by an attacker.
Accessibility. A logging issue was addressed with improved data redaction.
iperf3 before 3.14 allows peers to cause an integer overflow and heap corruption via a crafted length field.
A vulnerability was discovered in Python. A quadratic algorithm exists when processing inputs to the IDNA (RFC 3490) decoder, such that a crafted unreasonably long name being presented to the decoder could lead to a CPU denial of service. Hostnames are often supplied by remote servers that could be controlled by a malicious actor, which could trigger excessive CPU consumption on the client attempting to make use of an attacker-supplied hostname.
