Original Description
While investigating bug PROTON-2014, we discovered that under some circumstances Apache Qpid Proton versions 0.9 to 0.27.0 (C library and its language bindings) can connect to a peer anonymously using TLS even when configured to verify the peer certificate while used with OpenSSL versions before 1.1.0. This means that an undetected man in the middle attack could be constructed if an attacker can arrange to intercept TLS traffic.
A flaw was found in the bash functionality that evaluates specially formatted environment variables passed to it from another environment. An attacker could use this feature to override or bypass restrictions to the environment to execute shell commands before restrictions have been applied. Certain services and applications allow remote unauthenticated attackers to provide environment variables, allowing them to exploit this issue.

An attacker able to send and receive messages to an authoritative DNS server may be able to circumvent TSIG authentication of AXFR requests via a carefully constructed request packet. A server that relies solely on TSIG keys for protection with no other ACL protection could be manipulated into:
providing an AXFR of a zone to an unauthorized recipient accepting bogus Notify packets
An unauthorized AXFR (full zone transfer) permits an attacker to view the entire contents of a zone. Protection of zone contents is often a commercial or business requirement.
If accepted, a Notify sets the zone refresh interval to 'now'. If there is not already a refresh cycle in progress then named will initiate one by asking for the SOA RR from its list of masters. If there is already a refresh cycle in progress, then named will queue the new refresh request. If there is already a queued refresh request, the new Notify will be discarded. Bogus notifications can't be used to force a zone transfer from a malicious server, but could trigger a high rate of zone refresh cycles.
Workarounds:
The effects of this vulnerability can be mitigated by using Access Control Lists (ACLs) that require both address range validation and use of TSIG authentication in parallel. For information on how to configure this type of compound authentication control, please see:

A flaw was discovered in the Bluetooth protocol. An attacker within physical proximity to the Bluetooth connection could downgrade the encryption protocol to be trivially brute forced.
A flaw named SegmentSmack was found in the way the Linux kernel handled specially crafted TCP packets. A remote attacker could use this flaw to trigger time and calculation expensive calls to tcpcollapseofoqueue() and tcppruneofoqueue() functions by sending specially modified packets within ongoing TCP sessions which could lead to a CPU saturation and hence a denial of service on the system. Maintaining the denial of service condition requires continuous two-way TCP sessions to a reachable open port, thus the attacks cannot be performed using spoofed IP addresses.
A flaw named FragmentSmack was found in the way the Linux kernel handled reassembly of fragmented IPv4 and IPv6 packets. A remote attacker could use this flaw to trigger time and calculation expensive fragment reassembly algorithms by sending specially crafted packets which could lead to a CPU saturation and hence a denial of service on the system.

An industry-wide issue was found in the way many modern microprocessor designs have implemented speculative execution of Load & Store instructions (a commonly used performance optimization).
It relies on the presence of a precisely-defined instruction sequence in the privileged code as well as the fact that memory read from address to which a recent memory write has occurred may see an older value and subsequently cause an update into the microprocessor's data cache even for speculatively executed instructions that never actually commit (retire).
As a result, an unprivileged attacker could use this flaw to read privileged memory by conducting targeted cache side-channel attacks.
A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's KVM hypervisor handled exceptions delivered after a stack switch operation via Mov SS or Pop SS instructions. During the stack switch operation, processor does not deliver interrupts and exceptions, they are delivered once the first instruction after the stack switch is executed.
An unprivileged KVM guest user could use this flaw to crash the guest and/or potentially escalate their privileges in the guest.

A vulnerability was found in the fs/inode.c:inodeinitowner() function logic of the LInux kernel that allows local users to create files with an unintended group ownership and with group execution and SGID permission bits set, in a scenario where a directory is SGID and belongs to a certain group and is writable by a user who is not a member of this group. This can lead to excessive permissions granted in case when they should not.
GNU patch does not properly sanitize patch files allowing for malicious patches to pass arbitrary shell commands to ed. An attacker could exploit this by tricking a user into applying malicious patches with the patch command.
Artifex Ghostscript allows -dSAFER bypass and remote command execution via .rsdparams type confusion with a "/OutputFile.

An issue was discovered in icoutils 0.31.1. A buffer overflow was observed in the "decodeneresourceid" function in the "restable.c" source file. This is happening because the "len" parameter for memcpy is not checked for size and thus becomes a negative integer in the process, resulting in a failed memcpy. This affects wrestool.
An issue was discovered in icoutils 0.31.1. An out-of-bounds read leading to a buffer overflow was observed in the "simplevec" function in the "extract.c" source file. This affects icotool.
It was discovered that the SMTP client implementation in the Networking component of OpenJDK failed to correctly handle sender and recipient addresses containing newline characters. A remote attacker could possibly use this flaw to manipulate an SMTP connection opened by a Java application if it could make it send an email to or from a specially crafted address.
It was discovered that the Security component of OpenJDK did not allow users to restrict the set of algorithms allowed for Jar integrity verification. This flaw could allow an attacker to modify content of the Jar file that used weak signing key or hash algorithm.
This problem was originally addressed as part of October 2016 CPU as CVE-2016-5542 (bug 1385723). In that update, the following changes were made:
- New security property jdk.jar.disabledAlgorithms was introduced, which can be used to restrict which algorithms can be used for jar verification.
- MD2 hash algorithm and RSA keys with less than 1024 bits were disabled by default.
At the same time, it was announced that the MD5 has algorithm was going to be disabled in the future updates. It was originally planned to get disabled as part of the January 2017 CPU, but the change was further postponed to the April 2017 CPU. Hence, MD5 is now becoming disabled by default.

A flaw was found in kernel versions before 4.14.8. The timercreate syscall implementation in kernel/time/posix-timers.c in the Linux kernel before 4.14.8 doesn't properly validate the sigevent->sigevnotify field, which leads to out-of-bounds access in the showtimer function (called when /proc/$PID/timers is read). This allows userspace applications to read arbitrary kernel memory (on a kernel built with CONFIGPOSIXTIMERS and CONFIGCHECKPOINTRESTORE).

The (1) HTTP and (2) FTP coders in ImageMagick before 6.9.3-10 and 7.x before 7.0.1-1 allow remote attackers to conduct server-side request forgery (SSRF) attacks via a crafted image.
The EPHEMERAL coder in ImageMagick before 6.9.3-10 and 7.x before 7.0.1-1 allows remote attackers to delete arbitrary files via a crafted image.
It was discovered that the RMI (Java Remote Method Invocation) server implementation in the JMX (Java Management Extensions) component of OpenJDK did not restrict which classes can be deserialized when deserializing authentication credentials. A remote unauthenticated attacker able to connect to a JMX port could possibly use this flaw trigger deserialization flaws.
Moxilla Firefox allows remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy to read arbitrary files or gain privileges.
An unspecified flaw was found in the Libraries component in OpenJDK. ObjectInputStream's readSerialData() could, in certain cases, incorrectly perform deserialization of data from serialized input. An untrusted Java application or applet could use this flaw to bypass Java sandbox restrictions.
GNU Bash through 4.3 bash43-025 processes trailing strings after certain malformed function definitions in the values of environment variables, which allows remote attackers to write to files or possibly have unknown other impact via a crafted environment, as demonstrated by vectors involving the ForceCommand feature in OpenSSH sshd, the modcgi and modcgid modules in the Apache HTTP Server, scripts executed by unspecified DHCP clients, and other situations in which setting the environment occurs across a privilege boundary from Bash execution. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2014-6271.
It was reported [1] that the gdImageCreateFromXpm() function in libgd could dereference a NULL pointer, noting:
"The call to strlen() parses image.colorTable[i].ccolor which is initialised as NULL if the particular color mapping uses a different key (such as monochrome/monovisual)."
This was reported against PHP, which includes an embedded copy of the gd library. CVE-2014-2497 was assigned to this issue [2].
