1.SSL/TLS configurations should prefer AES over DES. Versions of OpenSSL shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7 already do so. In the version of OpenSSL shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 3DES is listed below the AES-256 cipher and above the AES-128 cipher, therefore AES-256 based ciphersuite should not be disabled on the server. 2. Servers using OpenSSL, should not disable AES-128 and AES-256 ciphersuites. Versions of Apache shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux use the default cipher string, in which AES is preferred over DES/3DES based ciphersuites. A new attack was discovered against TLS that allows an attacker to recover a limited amount of plaintext from a TLS connection when RC4 encryption is used. The attacks arise from statistical flaws in the keystream generated by the RC4 algorithm which become apparent in TLS ciphertexts when the same plaintext is repeatedly encrypted at a fixed location across many TLS sessions.

Remedy

The EnerVista URPC installation software versions prior to 8.70, used an incorrect method of loading the DLL (dynamic Link Library) file by referencing it relative to the location of the installation folder. If the system in which the software is installed gets compromised, an attacker could exploit this weakness and replace the legitimate DLL with a malicious file. The EnerVista UR Setup software installation has been upgraded to address this vulnerability.

The 17046 Ethernet card before 94450214LFMT100SEM-L.R3-CL for the GE Digital Energy Hydran M2 does not properly generate random values for TCP Initial Sequence Numbers (ISNs), which makes it easier for remote attackers to spoof packets by predicting these values.

Remedy

GE Digital Energy has released a new version of the Ethernet option, which resolves the identified vulnerability in newly released Hydran M2 devices. The update changes the sequence algorithm, which makes it improbable that a TCP sequence attack could succeed. Remedy

To resolve this issue and enhance security, during the S1 Agile application installation, we ensure only privileged users can access various folders used by the S1 Agile application. This ensures that S1 Agile files can not be edited or replaced by users without sufficient privileges on that computer. We would like to assert that this attack, if successful, can give “Administrator” privileges to the attacker on the computer, but the configured IEDs will not see any impact in their configuration or functionality. The RBAC (‘Role-Based Access Control’) on the IED remains unimpacted. We strongly recommend customers to upgrade to the latest software version available. Software version 3.1.1 is released for customer usage in January 2025.

GE maintains exploitation of this vulnerability is only possible if the attacker has login access to a machine actively running CIMPLICITY, the CIMPLICITY server is not already running a project, and the server is licensed for multiple projects.

Remedy

GE Digital recommends users upgrade all instances of the affected software to GE Digital’s Proficy CIMPLICITY, released January 2022 (Upgrade) and follow the instructions in the Secure Deployment Guide to restrict which CIMPLICITY projects are allowed to run. The upgrade contains what GE believes are mitigation measures to help ensure the vulnerability cannot be exploited. Users are encouraged to contact a GE Digital representative for the latest versions of the update. For users who choose to not implement the upgrade, GE Digital recommends applying the instructions in CIMPLICITY’s Secure Deployment Guide to ensure access to the CIMPLICITY machines and directories are properly controlled via access control limits.
