Description NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source have a vulnerability in the ngxhttpv3module module. When using HTTP/3 with proxyrequestbuffering on directive, an unauthenticated attacker may be able to inject data in the proxied request. Impact This vulnerability may allow remote attackers to inject data in the proxied request. There is no control plane exposure; this is a data plane issue only. Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.

Custom Resource Definition (CRD) and have an authenticated gRPC connection with NGINX Agent. A namespaced
authenticated attacker with access to a service account may impersonate the authenticated NGINX Agent gRPC connection to read TLS private keys of Gateway deployments in another namespace.

Description
NGINX Gateway Fabric has a vulnerability when it renders the spec.basic.realm (and spec.jwt.realm) field of a namespaced AuthenticationFilter verbatim, unescaped and unvalidated, into the shared data-plane nginx.conf as authbasic "<realm>";. A namespaced authenticated attacker that configures AuthenticationFilter CRD to an HTTPRoute/GRPCRoute on a shared Gateway can craft a realm value that closes the quoted directive and the enclosing location {} block and injects arbitrary NGINX directives into that Gateway's data-plane config.
Impact
A remote authenticated attacker can send crafted requests to configure NGINX Gateway Fabric AuthenticationFilter CRD and may be able to read every co-located tenant's mounted secrets, SSRF via proxypass, reading the pod ServiceAccount token, or hijacking other tenants' routes. There is no data plane exposure; this is a control plane issue only.

A vulnerability exists in NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source when a map directive uses regex matching and the root directive or access log format references the map's regex capture variables before referencing the map output variable. Alternatively, the same result could be achieved by using a non-cacheable variable in a string expression under certain conditions. An unauthenticated attacker along with conditions beyond their control can exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted HTTP requests. This may cause a heap buffer overflow in the NGINX worker process leading to a restart. Additionally, attackers can execute code on systems with Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) disabled or when the attacker can bypass ASLR. Impact: This vulnerability may allow remote attackers to cause a denial-of-service (DoS) on the NGINX system or to possibly trigger a code execution. There is no control plane exposure; this is a data plane issue only. Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.

Description When NGINX Plus or NGINX Open Source is configured with sslsessioncache
When NGINX Plus or NGINX Open Source is configured with sslsessioncache shared:<name>:<size> without an explicit sslsessionticketkey file directive to automatically rotate SSL session ticket keys, a remote unauthenticated attacker is able to forge client SSL sessions in a non-deterministic manner that is beyond the attacker's control. An attacker could leverage this vulnerability to bypass verification of client certificates.
NGINX ngxhttpcoremodule vulnerability
NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source have a vulnerability in the ngxhttpcoremodule module. When asynchronous file I/O (AIO) is enabled in certain configurations, processing a Server Side Includes (SSI) page containing include virtual commands may trigger a Use-After-Free (UAF) in the NGINX worker process. This may cause memory corruption or cause a worker process to terminate unexpectedly. Additionally, attackers can execute code on systems with Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) disabled or when the attacker can bypass ASLR.
A vulnerability exists in NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source when a location is configured that uses the alias directive together with rewrite and a set or return directive referencing the $requestfilename variable. Alternatively, the same result could be achieved when the $requestfilename variable is used in an access log format directive. An unauthenticated attacker along with conditions beyond their control can exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted HTTP requests. When NGINX Plus is configured to use the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) filter module (ngxstreammqttfiltermodule), unauthenticated attackers can send requests with conditions beyond the attacker's control to cause a heap buffer over-read in the NGINX worker process, leading to a restart.

NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source have a vulnerability in the ngxhttpssimodule module. This vulnerability may exist when the Server-Side Includes (SSI), proxypass, and proxybuffering off directives are configured. With this configuration, an unauthenticated attacker with man-in-the-middle (MITM) ability to control responses from an upstream server may be able to cause a use-after-free in the NGINX worker process. This issue may lead to limited modification of memory or a restart of the NGINX worker process.
When NGINX Gateway Fabric is configured using GRPCRoutes, an authenticated, remote attacker with permission to create or modify GRPCRoute resources can cause the NGINX Gateway Fabric control plane to terminate by sending undisclosed GRPCRoute configurations containing backendRef filters.

When NGINX Plus or NGINX Open Source is configured as the data plane for NGINX Gateway Fabric, an injection vulnerability exists in the NGINX configuration generator component of NGINX Gateway Fabric. User-supplied string values from the NginxProxy Custom Resource Definition (CRD) access log format setting are rendered directly into NGINX configuration templates without sanitization or escaping. An authenticated attacker with permission to create or modify these CRDs may craft values that inject arbitrary NGINX configuration directives. This is a control plane issue; there is no data plane exposure from the vulnerability trigger itself.

NGINX Open Source has a vulnerability in the ngxhttpv3module module. When NGINX Open Source is configured to use the HTTP/3 QUIC module, a remote unauthenticated attacker along with conditions beyond their control can use a specially crafted HTTP/3 session to reopen a QPACK encoder stream. This may cause a Use-after-Free in the NGINX worker process leading to a restart.
